Year 5

Welcome to the class page of Year 5 classes, Olive and Spruce 

Everyone has been very busy completing their homework over the half term. They are all incredible and I love how everyone has chosen to do something completely different. We've had ones with lights, 5 page descriptions, posters and models that show how the planets rotate. I'm not sure I'd like to live on some of your planets though!!

This week we enjoyed our first PE session with Hannah. We focused on forward rolls and handstands. It was important not to rush and think about technique and control.

We have continued to develop our communication skills in PE. This week, we have had to give short and clear instructions in order to guide our partner through the obstacle course safely. We have also continued developing our pen and ink skills. Some of the astronauts will soon be ready for their intergalactic background.

PE this half term is all about working together and problem solving. We have developed our communication skills in order to complete different challenges.

Year 5 Lift Off to the Space Centre

We have been completing a wooden boat challenge where they had to design and make a wooden boat which will float and keep 5 chocolate Santa’s dry!

Science in Spruce Class

This half term in music we have been writing our own music and using different media to play them back to our peers.
In Art we looked at different ways to sketch, we had lots of fun.
In year 5 we love to get lost in a good book.
During our ICT we have started to look at Scratch, working together, step by step, to explore the programme.

We have been working with Matt in music to learn how to write and then play our own music. We have used a range of instruments, including bells, xylophones and drums.

In science we are starting to learn how to plan and carry out a fair test. We are also working together to examine our results, report on what we have found and then use our scientific knowledge to try and explain why these results happened.’

‘In PE we are developing our athletics skills. We have been practicing our sprinting and hurdling techniques.’
